  • Aroma

This morning I found myself on a less than enjoyable run, trying to make it through the workout, feeling less than 100%.  After a long week, my legs were tired, back was sore, breath was short, and between the hills near my house and the summer heat in May, it was all I could do to keep myself from returning home to my bed.  As I closed in on the first mile of a four mile run, I was overwhelmed by the sweet aroma of honeysuckle growing near the road.  This is a smell from my child...

  • product

Sometimes it is so easy to get lost in our circumstances and failures.  But we are not the sum of our decisions or geneology, we are a product of the creator.  Created for His purpose and His glory, never alone and never apart from His eternal love. Isaiah 49:16, "Behold I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

  • the mirror

Ever look in the mirror and not like the image looking back.  Each of us can struggle at times with our own sense of self worth and confidence.  We can be guilty of seeing nothing but the damage we have done or the mistakes we have made.  But this is not what God see's.  God made each of us in His own image, His love is perfect and limitless for His creation.  When He looks at us He see's what we were, what we are, and what we can (and will) be and loves us to the depthe...

  • today

Oh the dog days of summer.  Sometimes it is very easy to look past the today, to focus on what's to come, whether it be the weekend, a holiday or a vacation.  I find it very rewarding to look to the day ahead in anticipation of what God has planned for me.  Today is a gift and God wants to use it to further His kingdom and my relationship with Him. Today I will look for Him and expect His presence throughout the day, after all tomorrow is guaranteed to no man. Micah 7:7a...

  • psalms 130:5

Psalms 130:5, "I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope".  My mind, hope and expectations are to be on the Lord and His power, not mine.  With this mindset comes liberty and peace.  God is master and He is Lord, and I will praise Him in victory and in defeat.

  • happiness-contentment

So many times I mistakenly think that my happiness and contentment in this world is a result of what I do or experience.  I see this everyday in the lives of my clients as well.  It's as if we think our job, or health, or family, or money, or security will eventually make us who we want to be.  But once we get to the top of that ladder, we find it is against the wrong wall.  Nothing this world provides will offer God's people lasting happiness and contentm...

  • vacation

Tuesday morning of this week I will leave on a golf trip to the west coast with my dad and brother.  We had originally planned to leave in early February but my wife's illness delayed our trip.  As I think back at that time I am so grateful to a loving God, and for the opportunity to both take a vacation with two of my favorite people and to enjoy another day of life with my wonderful Heather.  It is so easy to see God's goodness when things are going well, but in early February i...

  • past

Sometimes the past is a place we would rather forget, but many times the lessons for tomorrow are written in the past, and it is necessary to go back. This can bring up old ghost of pain, hurt and negative self-image from our past. Yet the God we serve love’s the person of yesterday, today and tomorrow, and His love is without ceasing.

  • Trust

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your path straight".  How tough is it to NOT lean on our own understanding?  To NOT give in to feelings of despair, depression, fear, anxiety, lust, etc.  It is so important that I recognize that my "own understanding" is so very often wrong, especially as compared to my heavenly father's understanding. ...

  • Fly Balls

My son Christian played in a baseball tournament this past weekend and did a wonderful job.  However, in one game the heavy winds distracted him in center field, and he was unable to make the catch which would have ended the game.  His team ended up winning the game in the next inning, but regardless of the outcome Christian was still somewhat dejected because of his timely error.  It is so hard to teach an 11year old that with errors come opportunities.  This experience will...

  • seek

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is in the later half of Genesis about Joseph.  You may know him as "Joseph and the coat of many colors".  I am always so impressed by Joseph's continued trust and positive attitude towards God and his circumstance, regardless of his plight.  He went from favored son, to slave, to head of the masters house, to accused sexual predator, to second in command of a great nation, all without taking his eyes off of his Lord.  Today during ...

  • Thanksgiving

Today I press on despite doubt and anxiety about the storms around me, but in total dependence and thanksgiving on what God has done and will continue to do in my life through His presence and goodness.  Today its not about me, its about Him.  Not about my feelings, but about His promises.  I am thankful for all He is and can be in me, for such a time as this.

  • Abundants

I have the unique opportunity each day to visit with countless people struggling with obstacles in their lives.  These exist in many forms; addictions, emotions, family, finances, careers.  As I prepare myself each morning to approach the day I am overwhelmed by God's ability and desire to "do far more abundantly beyond all that I ask or think (Eph. 3:20)".  This verse goes on to say that this abundance is "according to the power that works within us".  So, according to&...

  • Emotions

Prov.  3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight".  Sometimes just acknowledging God and His presence verbally is enough to move my emotions in the right direction.  Recently in the midst of my own crisis I would repeat the phrase, "God is good, All the time".  This isn't to say I always felt that way, but I recognized this to be true in my hea...
