It has been awhile since I have written on this blog but feel inspired to share today.  Yesterday I had the wonderful privilege to enjoy a bike ride on a beautiful fall afternoon.  This time of year is my favorite.  There is so much color in the landscape around our Oklahoma home.  Trees decorated in bright yellows, deep reds and amazing oranges cast with a brilliant blue sky.  It is almost more than the eye can handle.  I find myself longing for more time and ability to take in all that God has created in nature.  I  am disappointed in my eyes inability to take in more and more of this wonderful gift of nature.  But it is all I can do to enjoy, embrace and fully accept what God has allowed me at this time and in this place.  It is only for me to fully appreciate a minute, an hour, a season and the opportunity to experience it.

This is also a recipe for life.  Each moment we have is just for that moment.  Whether a time of deep struggle, or of wonderful joy, it is just for a moment and than it is gone.  We owe it to ourselves, to our creator, to take in each moment to the fullest.  To appreciate the season, the color, the detail, and to find ourselves being changed in and through it, and through Him who created it.  I recently read a book by Henri Nouwen in which he quotes, "I am grateful for all that has happened to me and led me to this moment.  This gratitude which embraces all of our past is what makes our life a true gift for others, because this gratitude erases bitterness, resentments, regret, and revenge as well as all jealousies and rivalries."

Today I embrace my life as a husband, father, son, brother, friend and therapist.  I am grateful for what God has allowed me to see and embrace, and for the opportunity to be changed by what has past, is now present, and for what is to come.
