"It is doubtful whether God can bless a man greatly until He has hurt him deeply."  A.W. Tozer

I came upon this quote earlier today with mixed feelings.  Hurt and pain are very hard concepts to grasp.  We would like to think that a loving God would never intentionally hurt His people.  But on the other hand, God knows what it takes to get our attention, and the places He must take us to make us into the people He wants us to be.

Tough times are just that, "tough", yet what we become through these times is "tough" as well.  Not a "hard" tough, but resilient, strong in faith, capable to with stand the attacks of satan and the flesh.  Difficult times force us to give up ourselves, and our inability to control or fix the circumstance, and to give ourselves more fully and completely to God.

I don't believe God ever wants us to hurt, but I do believe He wants our lives completely, and hurt is very often required to accomplish this task.  To God be the glory in good times and bad.

Brian,I airaecppte the feedback. My wife and in both have spent some pretty intense times trying to figure out what it looks like to move past all the stuff that happened to us out there, and it seems like every time we feel like we re finally getting there, something happens that causes it all to come rushing back into our lives. I know that bitterness is certainly something that is weighing me down, and it is something I m working on. My prayer now is for grace and the desire to forgive. Because, honestly, after something like this, the desire to forgive is a very distant reality. Anyway, I do airaecppte your reply. I am learning that for every bad experience and strained relationship, there is still encouragement to be found. Thank you for providing even a small portion of that encouragement.
