One Day

I was reading the story of Job this morning and realized that his entire life changed in one single day.  The morning he lost his family and all his possessions, started just as any morning before it.  Yet this day would offer tragedy and challenge he had never known before.

Life changes in a single moment, and we are never aware of what is to come.  God's plans are never known.  I wonder what today holds for you and me?  Will we face tragedy of a loved one?  A job loss or defeat?  Will sickness enter our bodies?  Will I have a flat tire or lose a client?  Or will today be just another average day??

Today as I write this blog it is September 11th.  Eleven years ago I was on a plane bound for Nashville.  A place I had visited many times before.  I had a layover in St. Louis and arrived at my destination on time.  When I exited the plane that morning everything felt different.  The terminal was different, the people were different.  It wasn't long before I found out why.  Due to the terrorist attacks on our country that day, I would spend the next several days driving back to Oklahoma City, fixed on every radio and tv  I came in contact with.  Addicted to the latest news of this awesome tragedy.  Our country and lives would never be the same.

That September morning I started my day as I would any other day, but this day was different, and God knew it.  The challenge in each day is to walk by faith, not by sight.  It is to live each day as if it is our last.  To glorify God in whatever our circumstances, and to know that nothing we experience has missed His glance.  God is good, all the time.  Whether today is destined for joy, tragedy, or the coming of our Lord, embrace it as a gift and and opportunity.

Phil. 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice."
