A word to parents this morning.  I have the opportunity and privilege of meeting with many young people and their parents through my counseling practice each week.  These are mainly kids with normal adolescent problems and parents who care deeply for their children.  I have notice a trend lately of what I will call over-parenting.  Parents desire and love is so strong to direct their child to the proper path in life they sometimes forget to have an individual relationship with them.  These parents spend a lot of time telling their child what to do or not do, but very little time growing a relationship or just being available to listen and love.  The kids I speak with each week desire a relationship more than anything.  They also feel their parents don't know them as well as their friends.  Parenting is tough work I know, but at some point we as parents need to increase are ability to listen over that of our ability to talk.  This little thing will allow a relationship with our children to grow and flourish beyond childhood.
