Sacred Marriage

Tonight, Heather and I started a study entitled "sacred marriages" at the church we are attending.  One of the first statement's made by the author was that "if you want to expose your sins, get married".  A tough statement, for sure, but also very accurate.

Marriage has been known to bring out the very best in people, and the very worst.  Marriage is not designed to make things easier.  Two very different people trying to live a life together is an easy recipe for conflict.  However, when we look at our own sin, like the statement above references, and God's ability and desire to work through us and through our marriage, we have the opportunity and the insight to be changed, as our marriage changes.

The other telling statement that came out of our evening study was that, "maybe marriage is more for our holiness than our happiness".  I really love this statement.  God designed marriage, like everything else, as something that points us to Him.  If my conflict at home, can better allow me to understand, trust and appreciate my heavenly Father, than I grow through my conflict, and become a better husband in the process.

My love and commitment to God must be first, over my marriage (and myself), but it is also the product that makes a marriage and life worth the effort.
