Safety

Safety is defined as; freedom from danger: protection from, or not being exposed to, the risk of harm or injury.

We all search for safety in our relationships.  As a matter of fact, safety is the key to strong communication, constructive conflict, and meaningful intimacy.  However, take away safety, in it's place you will find bitterness, anger, resentment, manipulation and frustration.   To be safe in a relationship is to trust those closest to you.  It is also the product of trusting those who have hurt you as well.  Trust needs to be earned, but it also can be pursued.  To trust is to venture into the unknown, tempted by emotions and past pain, but hopeful of the outcome of the action.

Trust in God is a venture into the unknown.  It is trusting the words of our savior and Lord, and the safety of His provisions and love.  It is trusting the unseen, not on what we feel, but what we known.  In relationships, it is very much about what we know, not what we feel, and to trust is to make a difference.  My ability to trust, in God and/or others, is only as big as the root of my ultimate trust, which is the Lord.  He has promised to never leave me or forsake me (Deut. 31:6), and my safety comes from Him, and nothing or no one else.
