Salt and Light

I have just returned from a trip to Nicaragua, and have a new found appreciation for the power of God's Spirit in a person's life.  I often make the mistake of thinking that trips like this are a way for me to make an impact on another's life, but it is other's that make an impact on me.

I have spent the last week with a group of young children full of the joy of the Lord.    They wake up each morning at 4am for bible study and prayer, they lead each other in worship once a week without any direction from adults, they disciple others in the villages around the mission, and they have a spirit of love and joy that is contagious, and all are under the age of 14!

Most of these children have been abandoned.  Some have come from abuse, neglect, and living in some of the worst conditions you can imagine.  Yet still they smile and believe that God loves them and has a plan for their lives.  During our trip we noticed many of the children wearing shirts that said "be salt,be light", from Matt. 5.  These children are a walking example of salt and light to the world, and I am better because of their impact on me and their world.

Matt. 5:13-16, ""You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again?  It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.  You are the light of the world.  A city set on the hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good worlds, and glorify your Father who is in heaven".

Isn't it good of our God to bless us when we least expect it?! I know you were a blessing to those children, Donnie. Even a light needs to be recharged at times. What a gift....to be able to go and be used by Him. I know you were a light in their dark world.

I'm disappointed bsacuee the new ladies sizing won't work for me. I have a large chest and a 22 waist, which makes buying shirts that look and fit right somewhat difficult. The old style with more of the fitted waist worked great, but with the new style I'd be swimming in the shirt everywhere but on top. I did a size comparison with the new size small measurements and some of my old shirts and the difference is too much. But you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.Too bad the new sizing started with this shirt though cuz I LOVE this design. My black cat is the spawn of Satan so this was perfect.
