today or yesterday

I have heard the expression many times, "live for today" or "live for the moment", but I wonder is this always a good thing?  To "live for today" is to forget the lessons of yesterday, to forget the road that we have traveled and the blessings we have received.  To "live for today" does not take into account God's constant hand of protection and provisions on my life.  Today is, and always will be, effected by yesterday.

To live in the shadow of yesterday, misses what today provides.  Today is a gift, it is newness, it is opportunity and possibility.  Today is a gift that allows for living.  It is possibilities in the present.  To "live for today" is to enjoy and embrace what God has provided, life.  But only at the memory and appreciation of yesterday, can we truly enjoy and appreciate today.

Salvation was yesterday, but it is what allows today.  My relationship with a living and loving God is about yesterday, lived out today!
